Studying outside Canada is not normally eligible for a Post Graduate Work Permit.
However, given the lengthy processing times of Study permit influenced by reduced operational capacity at IRCC offices [measures to curb the spread of Covid-19]; Int’l students can now do 100% of their studies online from outside Canada and still be eligible for a PGWP once program is complete.
Canada has now [again] extended the period that Int’l students can study online.
All of the time you spent studying online from outside Canada between spring 2020 and August 31, 2022, counts toward the length of a PGWP
Rule applies even if completing [2] study programs as long as the programs were ongoing or started between March 2020 and Summer 2022.
Other requirements:
- Study Programs must be with an eligible Designated Learning Institutions
- Must meet other PGWP requirements.
The time spent studying outside Canada after August 31, 2022, and any time spent studying before you applied for a study permit does not count toward the length of a PGWP.
The PGWP is an open work permit, meaning you can use it to work for any employer, in any occupation in Canada. It is a one-time deal, and it cannot be renewed or extended.
Having Canadian work and study experience can go a long way toward an immigration application.
