CAREGIVERS WILL HAVE NO ACCESS TO PR W.E.F NOV 2019

Pathways to Permanent Residence for Caregivers Set to Close in November 2019

There are currently two pathways to permanent residence for foreign in-home caregivers in Canada and their families: the Caring for Children Pathway, and the Caring for People with High Medical Needs Pathway.

These pathways were introduced as pilot programs in 2014, and they are both set to expire on November 29th, 2019.

The Federal government has said that it is currently conducting a review, but as of yet, no plans to renew or replace the programs have been announced.

In the past, Canada was one of the only countries in the world offering a path to permanent residence for foreign caregivers after two years of work in Canada.

Applicants who meet all eligibility criteria for the pilot programs before November 29th, 2019 will still be able to apply. Those criteria include two years of Canadian work experience as a caregiver, English or French language skills, and a post-secondary credential of at least one year.
