IRCC FUND ALLOCATION - CANADA BUDGET 2018

Here’s a breakdown of the numbers and what they mean for IRCC:

Supporting Women and Girls

• $20 million over 5 years is pledged to resettle women and girls from various conflict zones around the world.
• $32 million over 3 years will be used to launch a pilot project that supports programming to remove potential barriers to employment for newcomer women of a visible minority.

Protecting Temporary Foreign Workers

• $196 million over 5 years, $180 million of which will go to IRCC, will go toward unannounced inspections of the Temporary Foreign Workers program, continuing the International Compliance Regime and collecting labour market data about open work permits.

Irregular Migration: Managing the Border

• $175 million will be used to support security at the Canada-U.S. border, with $17 million going to IRCC to process asylum claimants in 2018-19.

Supporting Francophone Migration

• $41 million of the $400 million going to support the Action Plan for Official Languages 2018-2023 will go to IRCC to fund a “francophone pathway” that spans the entire immigration process.

Start-up Visa Program

• Beginning in 2018-19, $7 million over 5 years, and $0.8 million per year ongoing, will be used to establish the Start-up Visa Program as a permanent pathway to immigration.

2018-2020 Immigration Levels Plan

• The funding outlined above is in addition to $875 million over 6 years, of which IRCC is slated to receive $747 million, to support the 2018-2020 Immigration Levels Plan. The multi-year levels plan was first announced in fall 2017 and is included in the 2018 Budget Plan.
