Quebec announced revisions to the Programme de l’expérience Québécoise (PEQ) on July 22, 2020
The program allows international students and temporary foreign workers established in the province to obtain a certificate of selection from Quebec, with a view to obtaining permanent residence.
According to the government, the adjustments announced Thursday by the newly appointed Minister of Immigration, Nadine Girault, will allow students already in Quebec who obtain a diploma by December 31, 2020, to apply for PEQ.
The changes include:
- Duration of the work experience required for temporary workers will be set at 24 months
- Work experience acquired during a mandatory internship as part of the study program will also be considered in the calculation of work experience, up to a maximum of three months of full-time work.
- Work experience required of holders of a vocational diploma is reduced to 18 months
The adjustments are made to promote the integration into the job market of immigrants who are in Quebec with temporary status, while recognizing the contribution of students and foreign students as well as temporary foreign workers in the Quebec economy.
